What Is the Silo Structure in WordPress? Is It Good for SEO?

Silo Structure for SEO?

Silo structure is a method of article structure. Essentially you’re categorizing specific articles so that they link to each other, which signals to Google the content is related. Often, but not necessary, SEO folks organize the articles using a common parent URL slug.

As an example:

  • /pets (the parent slug, which links to the child articles)
  • /pets/dogs (a child slug, which links to other child articles under the same parent)
  • /pets/cats (a child slug, which links to other child articles under the same parent)
  • /pets/kangaroos (a child slug, which links to other child articles under the same parent)
  • /pets/snakes (a child slug, which links to other child articles under the same parent)

One of the best articles I’ve come across concerning the topic can be found at BloggingX. Rather than rehash the article myself, check this one out. It’s well worth the read if you’re not entirely clear on how this works.
